As a full album, and general concept it is great, no album this year can beat the quality beats and bass with a really good mix of artist vocals from 80’s electric pioneer and guru Gary Numan to the haunting vocals of Solomon Grey to the full on rap of Wiley. My favourite track is Long Wait featuring Solomon Grey, it is so good, I bought all the remixes and the Solomon Grey 2016 album. Check them out.
Wow. After watching the Walking Dead Season 7 premiere, there was definitely some shocks in that episode. Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan great casting and totally up to the task, you gotta love a madman just like Jack Nicholson in the 1989 Batman, the role was almost born for him. The big shock though is him killing one and offing another midway through, and then getting Rick to crumble especially in front of his friends.
The wife was not happy at all with this episode and now doesn’t want to continue, I am sure she will, but it has divided a lot of people about the show, killing off such a big character… only time will tell whether or not Season 7 goes on to be better than previous seasons or loses a good portion of it’s fan base.
Luke Cage started off quite well, but there was a lot of filler episodes in the series. We needed a lot more action to be kicking off, a guy that is bullet proof and seemingly ridiculously strong, should be taking out all sorts of nasties, and a lot of the time I felt like he was running away. Nowhere near reaching the heights of Daredevil, (which I watched non stop until it was finished), there wasn’t even an amazing scene where you thought that was incredible, even when he broke into the supposed gangsters stronghold, it was still a bit boring and more “Meh!” I would love to have given this a better score, but it just didn’t live up to the hype. I am hoping that season 2 goes a long way to upping the game.
Solomun renowned producer/DJ remixer releases his 4LP boxset (comes with colouring crayons and a large format poster) of remixes with the likes of Broken Bells, Foals, Lana Del Rey and Tiefschwarz to name a few. This album is a true testament to the diverse and superb sound quality of Solomun’s remixes. I had already bought the Solomun remixes of Broken Bells and Tiefschwarz on this album – so I knew of his talent in remixing and creating a lush soundscape with someones else’s basic song elements. It’s the diversity of artists and remix production that shines through and brings this album together, a great selection of his work, makes me want to check out his other DJ albums…
I can’t stop listening to Shit Robot’s latest album ‘What Follows’ on DFA Records. This album is great with the stand out track being ‘End of the Trail’ featuring Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor. It is a fantastic soundtrack to listen to whilst working i played it twice and immediately got hooked, and I highly recommend this album. The LP version comes as a gatefold with Orange and Green coloured vinyl and a download code too…
Independence Day: Resurgence ends up being a parody of the original, the effects are great and there are some good action sequences in this film, but it is badly let down by the hammy acting, too many coincidence situations and the rather drawn out same actors with the here we go again scenario.
If we had a completely new set of actors and a new director on this film it would of been so much better. Roland Emmerich has had his day (in the nineties) and his style of big action disaster movie just does not work in today’s very savvy tech world. The characters within all manage to survive yet again, With David’s father been the most ridiculous scenario. There also seems to be some dodgy editing and again the rousing over the top american speeches with the over the top self sacrifice from the original president (Bill Pullman) who as the film goes on starts as a broken man, then drops his walking cane and miraculously walks perfect and then finds a flight suit that fits him and has a shave to go and have a face off with the alien queen.
As for Liam Hemsworth – he is all over the place, on the moon saving the base, in Africa rescuing Jeff Goldblum’s character David, in the alien ship – swimming in the alien’s “cornfields”, stealing ships and pissing on the alien flight deck and then in the desert shooting at the queen in the final sequences, OFMG How much can one man do!!! Plus an amazing amount of naff one liners and the craziness of Brent Spiner. It all goes to make a hotch potch of random ideas added to the original formula and a pay check for a lot of these now defunct actors.
You have to take this film not too seriously and consider it as: ridiculous fun with over-the-top action sequences and scenarios, and then you’ll love it.
Following on from last year’s Public Service Broadcasting’s ‘Race for Space’ album released back in March 2015, this album compliments the original with several remixes taken from the various ‘singles’ released. The stand out track being for me ‘Go: Kauf Remix’ followed by ‘Sputnik: Peter Dundov Remix’ which was on the Sputnik 12″. The LP version was pre-ordered and comes as a limited edition Orange vinyl with a download code for two extra tracks. Probably the best chill out album this year.
Civil War in the cinema on the big screen was fantastic. It lived up to the hype and easily scores a 9 out of 10 for me.
Great film, plenty of action, the face off in the airport was great, and Spiderman’s inclusion all helped make it a great film. The only problem I have is this unbearable sense of loyalty from Cap to Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier. When it all goes off and Bucky is hunted, okay save him as your friend but when it turns out he did all these things especially to Tony’s parents, you would just go, sorry pal that’s a step too far…but other than that, a great film just what the Marvel fans wanted…
This is looking really good. Definitely in the Iron Man Camp. Go Team Tony! I hope that Rhodey (as War machine) isn’t dead in this trailer. Black Panther looks cool, and as of yet undecided on what team he is on – although he is kicking The Winter Soldier in the head!!!
