The world's recognised number 1 football brand launches it's first online streaming platform

Working as part of a newly formed team to deliver a brand new online streaming portal for football's world governing body FIFA. My task was to create content assets for the numerous episodic series and one off films that FIFA had commissioned in the 6 months prior to my joining the team. It was a tight deadline with many assets that required to be created from scratch using only the raw video footage as screen grabs and creating each show/films look and feel via imagery and type only.

The brief was to make it look as close to Apple's TV+ with obviously with a majorly reduced budget. Apple would be spending northwards of 1 million an episode, where as we has film makers roughly in the 20-30k budget. With over 80 series/films in progress or completed the first 3 months of project was full on with the UX of the platform changing daily and assets needing updates to new sizes, eventually it was agreed to follow a standard 4K video size for most assets and let the platform create smaller sizes.

However, getting the platform ready with so many assets to be created was the real challenge. The workflow consisted of watching each video, make selections of screen grabs that represented the film content, then try and apply colour variation and effects so that it didn't just look like a screen grab, and finally apply title treatment & type to suit each episode or film. Some episodes had rough/placeholder title art, some were so raw they had no styling whatsoever, and others had completed title sequences but were not supplied and had to be recreated as holding backgrounds for the descriptor text and title area on the left hand side within the platform's UX design.

Then over the course of the project as we were approaching deadlines for launch, we created promotional assets for the platform launch, promotional assets for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar following a set of guidelines and also created the legacy past competitions, as well as archival assets.

It was a very challenging and interesting project with every member of team fully engaged to deliver the platform and on time, within budget and working as a good platform for the whole world to see.

Once launched, the excited fever for the platform brought newer challenges such as Arabic conversions, with the content made to run the opposite side to the original UX design because Arabic text rubs the opposite way, as well as their own middle eastern show, films and translations.
